Louisville Salvation Army day center will close Nov. 2 as use declines

The Salvation Army of Louisville will close its day shelter at 911 South Brook Street on Nov. 2, ending a service that has operated since 2020 for people experiencing homelessness.

The center offered a safe place to spend daytime hours, basic support and connections to other community resources. The Salvation Army said participation had declined and that daytime shelter options remain available through community partners.

In announcing the closure, the organization cited a review of sustainable funding, staffing and volunteer capacity, as well as current use of the program. It said closing the center would allow it to concentrate limited resources on other services and is working with partners to connect current users with community resources.

The Salvation Army said it will continue providing emergency shelter, extended sheltering during qualifying “white flag” situations, hot meals, food boxes, emergency financial assistance when funding allows, disaster response, Christmas assistance, case management and collaborative services with community partners.
