Louisville Metro Police collected 2,204 pounds of prescription medications across the city during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, setting a local record, the department said.

The collection filled 117 boxes at nearly 20 locations, including sites at Norton Healthcare, Baptist Health, Kroger and Walgreens, as well as the Louisville Zoo and LMPD’s 4th Division.

The Drug Enforcement Administration leads the nationwide event, which gives people a way to dispose of prescription medicines safely and responsibly. LMPD said this year’s totals surpassed the city’s previous collection record.
