LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Families considering foster care or adoption gathered Saturday at St. Joseph's Children's Home for the Explore Foster Care + Adoption Conference, an event designed to demystify the process and connect prospective parents with support networks.

The conference offered attendees an overview of what becoming a foster parent entails, information on available resources, and guidance on how to help families in need. Breakout sessions led by child welfare experts gave participants a chance to ask detailed questions and hear directly from people who have navigated the system.

Amanda Gehring, CEO of St. Joseph's Children's Home, said the personal stories are often what make the difference for families on the fence.

"Events like today is really an opportunity for families to come in, hear from their neighbor who might be a foster parent and say, 'You know, when I started, I was really scared too, and here's what I was afraid of, and here's what I found out what was true or not true,'" Gehring said.

The conference was organized in partnership with St. Joseph's Children's Home, Wednesday's Child and Kosair for Kids. The collaboration reflects a broader push in the Louisville area to recruit and support foster and adoptive families as the need for stable homes continues.

For residents who missed Saturday's event, the partnering organizations maintain ongoing resources for those exploring foster care and adoption. More information is available through St. Joseph's Children's Home and Wednesday's Child.
