George Greer gets 35-year sentence in Grayson County sword killing

A Grayson County man was sentenced to 35 years in the Kentucky Department of Corrections for a samurai sword attack that killed a 59-year-old woman and seriously injured two other people.

George Greer received the sentence Tuesday, Oct. 20, following guilty pleas this summer. The penalties include 20 years for murder, 15 years for each of two attempted murder counts and five years for theft. The terms were structured to total 35 years, according to the sentencing details released by Kentucky State Police.

The attack happened in February 2024 at Greer’s home in Falls of the Rough. When state police arrived, they found Teresa Boles dead in the yard and two other people with serious injuries, police said.

Greer had left the scene and stolen a vehicle, prompting a manhunt. He was captured later that evening. Investigators said Greer told them he was under the influence of drugs during the attack.

Trooper Washer, in a statement posted on Facebook, said the sentence could not undo Boles’ death but held Greer accountable and offered some closure to the victims’ families.
