Las Vegas-area voter events planned at eight sites as Nevada early voting opens

Nevada’s early-voting period begins Saturday, Oct. 17, and Indivisible Las Vegas plans to mark the opening with voter-participation events at eight locations across the Las Vegas valley.

The group describes “No Kings: Vote Early — Party at the Polls” as a nonpartisan effort to encourage turnout. Volunteers plan to offer music, food, signs, welcome teams and photo opportunities outside polling places, while remaining beyond the required 100-foot electioneering boundary.

Events are scheduled at Arroyo Market Square, Blue Diamond Crossing, Craig Ranch Regional Park, Galleria Mall, Meadows Mall, Pearson Community Center, Cardenas Market on East Bonanza and Desert Breeze Park. Most locations will host morning activities from 9 to 11 a.m. and afternoon events from 4 to 6:30 p.m.; Desert Breeze also has a late-morning shift from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Galleria and Meadows are listed for afternoon events only.

A “Souls to the Polls” gathering at Pearson Community Center in North Las Vegas is expected to bring hundreds of seniors on a walk from the Martin Luther King statue to the community center. Assembly is set for 9 a.m., with U.S. Rep. Steven Horsford leading the march.

At Desert Breeze, the group plans to operate a voting-information booth during the Las Vegas PRIDE festival. At Craig Ranch Park, Indivisible and Planned Parenthood Mar Monte will offer food and music and share information about Question 6, which is on this year’s ballot.

Families are invited to take part. Children can sign an “I Promise to Vote When I Turn 18” pledge and receive a sticker while supplies last. Each location is also slated to hold a selfie contest, with gift cards for winners. An after-party is planned for 7 p.m. at Bizarre Bar, 1301 S. Main St., Suite 200.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it was aware of the events and would have resources in the area “to ensure individuals can peacefully and lawfully exercise their First Amendment Rights.”
