Two Nevada state parks will shut their gates for fall upkeep
Spring Mountain Ranch will close Nov. 2–8, followed by a two-week closure at Valley of Fire in December. Both parks will bar all visitors while crews perform maintenance and improvements.
Two popular Nevada state parks will temporarily close this fall for maintenance, keeping visitors out during work scheduled for the cooler offseason.
Spring Mountain Ranch State Park will be closed Nov. 2 through Nov. 8 and is set to reopen Nov. 9. Planned work includes painting, road repairs and upkeep of lawns and pastures, along with cleaning.
Valley of Fire State Park will close Dec. 1 through Dec. 14, reopening Dec. 15. State officials say the annual closure allows maintenance to be done when visitation is lower. Heavy visitor traffic, staffing shortages and extreme summer heat make the offseason a practical time for the work, they said.
The closures apply to everyone, including people entering on foot. Weddings, photography sessions and guided tours will not be allowed at either park during the shutdowns. Valley of Fire will also stop accepting camping reservations for the closure period.
Nevada State Parks is encouraging visitors to choose other state parks while Spring Mountain Ranch and Valley of Fire are closed. Details are available at parks.nv.gov.
