Storms and staffing slow flights at Las Vegas airport, FAA says
Rain and wind contributed to 665 delayed flights and 11 cancellations at Harry Reid International Airport on Thursday. Southwest had nearly 330 delays, while the FAA cited weather and staffing-related ground holds.
LAS VEGAS — Rain and wind across the Las Vegas Valley disrupted air travel Thursday, with 665 flights delayed and 11 canceled at Harry Reid International Airport, according to FlightAware figures reported Oct. 23, 2026.
Southwest Airlines accounted for nearly 330 of the reported delays, making it the most affected carrier. The Federal Aviation Administration said active weather was producing delays of about 90 minutes. Gate-hold and taxi delays tied to staffing were running 45 to 60 minutes, the FAA said.
Airport officials urged travelers to check directly with their airlines for current flight status and updates. The delay and cancellation counts were reported as of Thursday and could change as weather and airport operations shifted.
