Las Vegas offers up to $7,500 for eligible homeowners facing water leaks
Two new city programs will help qualifying Las Vegas households address active water leaks and lead paint hazards. One provides up to $7,500 for leak repairs; the other offers free remediation in eligible older homes where young children live or regularly visit.
Las Vegas homeowners who meet income and residency requirements can seek help through two new city home-repair programs, including grants for active water leaks and free lead paint remediation.
The city developed the leak-repair program with the Las Vegas Valley Water District. Eligible homeowners may receive up to $7,500 to fix leaks, including problems in the service line between a home and its water meter.
To qualify, a home must be within Las Vegas city limits and be the owner’s primary residence. Households must also meet income limits; a family of four, for example, must earn less than $76,150 a year.
The city will work with approved homeowners to obtain three estimates, select a licensed contractor and pay the contractor directly after the work is completed.
A separate program provides free lead paint remediation for qualifying homes built before 1978. A child younger than 6 must live in the home or visit frequently, and the household must meet federal income guidelines.
Landlords may also apply for eligible rental properties if they agree to give families with young children priority for several years after the remediation work. The program is intended to reduce children’s exposure to lead paint hazards.
Residents can apply through the City of Las Vegas website. The programs offer targeted help with repairs that can be costly for households to manage on their own.
