Forensic evidence presented in case against Las Vegas man charged in father’s killing
Jurors heard medical and forensic testimony in the trial of Timothy La, who is accused of killing his father, Eun Jin La, in their Las Vegas home. La previously told police he believed aliens had directed him to act.
LAS VEGAS — Jurors heard testimony about autopsy findings and forensic evidence Wednesday in the trial of Timothy La, 36, who is accused of killing his father at the family’s Las Vegas home in February 2025.
Clark County Medical Examiner Dr. Stephanie Yagi testified that Eun Jin La, 73, died from a brain hemorrhage after being shot in the back of the head. Forensic scientist Allison Ruvino told jurors that DNA recovered from the handgun and magazine used in the shooting belonged to Timothy La, according to testimony presented in court.
A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department crime scene analyst testified that investigators found the gun in a basket inside the home. Jurors also viewed photographs showing evidence collected in the house, including a spent casing near Eun Jin La’s body and bullet fragments in the main bathroom.
Police arrested Timothy La after his mother called to report that her husband was unconscious and not breathing. The family lived near Blue Diamond Road and Decatur Boulevard, and Timothy La lived with his parents, according to an arrest report.
During a police interview, Timothy La said he believed he was rescuing a “worker” from torture and that the worker was wearing his father’s face, court documents cited in the case say. Police also reported that he said aliens told him to kill his father. A judge found La competent to stand trial in March 2025.
The testimony and exhibits are part of the prosecution’s case; the allegations have not been decided by the jury.
