Henderson thunderstorms bring more rain as cooler air moves into Las Vegas Valley
Thunderstorms swept through Henderson and parts of the south Las Vegas Valley early Monday evening, a day after the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel brought record-setting rain to the region. A rain gauge near Foothills Drive and Interstate 11 measured 0.24 inches Monday, according to the Regional Flood Control District. Other gauges in the area recorded 0.04 and 0.08 inches. A gauge near Boulder City also recorded 0.24 inches. The storms interrupted a girls soccer game at Silverado High School, where play was paused for a rain delay. Rainbows appeared over Henderson and near the school as the clouds began to clear. Monday’s high at Harry Reid International Airport was 73 degrees — 10 degrees below normal — said Julie Phillipson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Las Vegas. A cold front passing through Southern Nevada is expected to bring a small chance of morning rain Tuesday and lower temperatures. The forecast high is 65 degrees. Dry weather is then expected through the rest of the week, with highs near 70 and overnight lows in the 50s.
