Alejandro Estrada admits to fatal Smith’s shooting; faces 56 years to life
Alejandro Estrada pleaded guilty to two murder counts in the May shooting deaths of Amanda Frias Rosas and Victor Frias Rosas at a Las Vegas Smith’s store. His plea agreement calls for consecutive sentences totaling 56 years to life, with sentencing set for Nov. 25.
LAS VEGAS — Alejandro Estrada has pleaded guilty to two counts of murder with a deadly weapon in the fatal shooting of Amanda Frias Rosas and Victor Frias Rosas at a Smith’s Food and Drug store in May.
The 43-year-old entered the pleas last week in Clark County District Court. Under the agreement, he will serve consecutive sentences of 28 years to life for each count, for a total of 56 years to life in prison. A judge is scheduled to sentence him Nov. 25.
Police said the couple were working inside the store near Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch Boulevard when they were shot. Bystanders tackled Estrada outside the store, and police took him into custody.
According to an arrest report, Estrada and Amanda Frias Rosas had previously been in a relationship and shared two children. The report said he owed more than $2,800 in child support and told detectives he shot the couple after she went to court over the payments. He also told detectives he intended to shoot it out with police if bystanders had not stopped him, the report said.
Before the plea agreement, prosecutors had sought to preserve the option of pursuing the death penalty. Estrada’s sentencing will determine the final terms of his imprisonment.
