Obama backs Angie Nixon as Trump urges Floridians to vote for Ashley Moody
With Florida’s Nov. 3 U.S. Senate election less than two weeks away, former President Barack Obama endorsed Democrat Angie Nixon, while President Donald Trump renewed his support for Republican Ashley Moody. A University of North Florida poll released this month showed Moody leading 49% to 45%.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Former President Barack Obama endorsed Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon on Saturday, as President Donald Trump urged Florida voters to support Republican Ashley Moody ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm election.
In a video shared on Nixon’s Facebook page, Obama said he believed she would be an “outstanding U.S. senator,” adding that “real change starts when regular folks stand up for what’s right.”
Trump posted Thursday on Truth Social, urging Floridians to make a plan to vote for Moody. His message followed a rally Friday in Fort Myers, where he appeared with Moody and Byron Donalds to promote the Republican ticket. Trump had previously formally endorsed Moody.
A University of North Florida survey released this month put Moody ahead of Nixon, 49% to 45%. Moody’s four-point lead was narrower than the eight-point advantage she held in an earlier UNF poll this summer.
The endorsements bring prominent figures from both parties into the closing stretch of a closely watched contest for Florida’s U.S. Senate seat.
