Naval Air Station Jacksonville expects about 200,000 visitors for its air show this weekend, where the Navy’s Blue Angels will close each day’s program with a performance at 3 p.m.

The show is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, with gates opening at 9 a.m. and performances beginning at 11 a.m. The Blue Angels, whose squadron began in Jacksonville, are also scheduled to perform Friday for people with authorized base access and their guests. Admission and parking are free.

Organizers are warning visitors to plan for heavy traffic. It could take as long as two hours to leave the base and reach U.S. 17 after the show, according to NAS Jacksonville. The base is coordinating traffic response with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Orange Park Police Department and Florida Department of Transportation.

All air-show visitors must enter through the Allegheny Gate; they will not be allowed south of Yorktown Avenue. Visitors over 18 must present a government-issued Real ID. Foreign nationals need a passport, while legal permanent residents may use a green card. People with authorized base access can use the Birmingham Gate for regular business, but that entrance does not provide access to the flight line. Once inside, drivers will be directed to available parking. Parking at the Target shopping center is prohibited for air-show visitors, and unauthorized vehicles may be towed at the owner’s expense.

The performance lineup includes the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and its C-17 East Coast Demo Team, flying a C-17 Globemaster III known as “Moose.” Civilian performers include Matt Younkin, Skip Stewart, Jeff Shetterly, Kyle Fowler and Adam Baker, along with Redline Airshows. More than a dozen military and civilian aircraft will be on display. The schedule is the same both days, although clouds and wind could affect some performances.

A Kids Zone will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $10 per child and $5 per adult, payable in cash at the event. Attractions include a Blue Angel-themed obstacle course, slides, a jump, face painting and a hands-on science, technology, engineering and math area. Food and drink vendors will also be on site. Paid seating costs $25; a Biergarten pass is $85. Those options must be bought with cash on site, and premium chalets are available Sunday only.

Visitors are advised to bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, ear protection and a chair or blanket. There is no shade on the flight line, and organizers say the performances are loud. Refillable water bottles are permitted, but potable water is not available at the airfield. Bags are allowed within size limits: opaque bags may be no larger than 4.5 by 6.5 inches, and clear bags may be no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches. Security will check bags and chairs. Cash is recommended because vendors’ payment options vary; an ATM will be near the show center.

Coolers, outside food and drinks, pop-up tents, large umbrellas, pets, drones, bicycles, skateboards, grills and weapons are prohibited. Small snacks and bottles for infants are allowed, as are service animals. Smoking and vaping are also barred because of the risk posed by highly flammable jet fuel.

Accessible parking is available for vehicles displaying a disability placard, and a first-come, first-served area is reserved for visitors with disabilities. Spectators may also view the show from boats on the St. Johns River, but must stay outside a marked restricted-water zone. Organizers expect more than 100 boats.

The show will be broadcast on 87.9 FM beginning at 11 a.m. Friday through Sunday. There is no rain date or refund; visitors should check NAS Jacksonville’s air-show website or Facebook page for weather updates.
