Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office makes Riverside Avenue building its main headquarters

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 20, at its new main administrative headquarters in the Florida Blue building on Riverside Avenue, then gave a tour of the space.

The new headquarters includes a communications center where dispatchers work and train, along with a real-time crime center. Screens there display public intersections, and staff demonstrated a drone that the agency says can help deputies assess situations and respond more quickly.

Other areas include a sheriff’s briefing room, a production studio, rooms for victims and witnesses, a cafeteria and a drill hall for ceremonies and events. The building also has a parking garage.

The move brings the Sheriff’s Office’s main administrative headquarters into the Florida Blue building. Its Public Services Building at 450 Magnolia St. remains in use, primarily for requests for records.

The new facilities bring together administrative, communications and technology functions, as well as spaces used for staff training and public-facing services. The agency did not provide details in the tour information about the headquarters’ cost or how many employees will work there.
