Jacksonville man charged after two children were left outside apartment, police say
Ezra Tyson, 24, faces two felony child-neglect charges after a witness found two children unattended at her apartment door on Oct. 9. He was arrested Oct. 18 and released under conditions that include GPS monitoring and no unsupervised contact with minors.
A 24-year-old Jacksonville man was arrested after police say he left two children unattended outside an apartment and walked away.
Ezra Tyson was taken into custody early Oct. 18 at a business on Norwood Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. He faces two counts of felony child neglect. The incident happened Oct. 9, according to an arrest warrant.
A witness at the apartment complex told police Tyson knocked on her door, left the children outside and walked away. She opened the door moments later, expecting a DoorDash delivery, and found them there without an adult.
A delivery driver who arrived told police he saw a man running away. The witness also viewed a brief preview from her doorbell camera that investigators said showed Tyson leaving the children at the door. The witness told police she did not know how Tyson had learned her address, according to the affidavit.
After officers arrested him, Tyson told them he had been on the phone when he dropped off the children and that people at the location knew he was bringing them, according to the police report.
A judge set bond at $10,003 for each charge. Tyson’s release conditions prohibit unsupervised contact with minors and contact with the witness, bar him from possessing firearms or other weapons, and require GPS monitoring.
