Jacksonville boy wounded in shooting after two SUVs followed group to Mill Creek Road
A juvenile boy suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound early Sunday after an argument that began near Regency mall continued at a business off Mill Creek Road, police said. Investigators are seeking witnesses and surveillance footage; no suspect description has been released.
A juvenile boy was shot in the chest early Sunday after two SUVs followed his group from the Regency area to Mill Creek Road in Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Officers responded at about 1:40 a.m. to the 700 block of Mill Creek Road. Witnesses told police the boy had been taken to a hospital, where officers found him with one gunshot wound. His injury was not considered life-threatening, JSO said.
The boy and his friends had been spending time near Regency mall when occupants of a white SUV and a red SUV arrived and began arguing with them, investigators said. The group left, but the SUVs followed them to a business off Mill Creek Road, where the dispute resumed. A suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the boy, police said.
JSO said the groups did not know each other. Investigators have not released a description of the shooter or said whether anyone has been arrested. Detectives are interviewing witnesses, reviewing available surveillance video and processing the scene for evidence.
