Coastal flooding, dangerous surf expected as nor’easter affects Northeast Florida

Northeast Florida is expected to see a windy, unsettled weekend as a nor’easter brings scattered showers and rough conditions along the coast, according to the forecast issued Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026.

Northeasterly winds are forecast to strengthen through Saturday, with coastal gusts reaching 35 to 45 mph through the weekend. High surf and dangerous rip currents are expected to persist into early next week. Forecasters also warned of moderate to major tidal flooding and beach erosion around high tide through Monday.

Showers moving in from the Atlantic are expected mainly along the Northeast Florida coast and the St. Johns River Basin. Jacksonville was in the mid-50s Saturday morning, while temperatures were in the 60s at the beaches and in the 40s inland. Highs were forecast near 72 in Jacksonville and at the beaches, with inland temperatures reaching the upper 70s.

Sunday was expected to bring conditions similar to Saturday, including strong winds, a few showers and hazardous surf. Winds should ease somewhat late Monday and Tuesday, as temperatures warm into the upper 70s. Tuesday’s forecast called for mostly sunny skies; isolated showers remained possible on some later days of the week.

The combination of strong winds, high surf and flooding risk makes the coast especially hazardous through the weekend. Beachgoers should heed local warnings about rip currents and changing surf conditions.
