Aliyah Boston has knee surgery after managing meniscus injury through Fever season

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Fever center Aliyah Boston underwent arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to repair a lateral meniscus injury, the team announced. The procedure was performed by Dr. Corey Kendall at OrthoIndy in Indianapolis. The Fever have not set a timetable for Boston’s return.

Boston first injured the knee while playing in Unrivaled in February. The injury kept her out of that league’s playoffs and the FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament in March, but she played through the problem during the WNBA season, with the team managing her workload.

At her Oct. 3 exit interview, Boston said the injury affected some games and led her to miss time. She said it was difficult for a competitor who did not like sitting out, but that she had made it through the season.

Boston averaged a career-high 16.1 points per game in 2026 and was named an All-Star starter. She also shot 40% from 3-point range. Her 27.1 minutes per game were her lowest average since entering the WNBA in 2023, and she missed four games while managing the injury. She did not play both games in any of the Fever’s three back-to-back sets.

Coach Stephanie White said in May that Indiana would carefully manage Boston’s ramp-up and day-to-day workload. The team’s frontcourt depth was also tested when Damiris Dantas was ruled out for the season with a meniscus tear in August. General manager Amber Cox said after the season that adding frontcourt depth was a priority for 2027.

Boston will work through rehabilitation with the Fever’s medical and performance staff. She is slated to return to Unrivaled, where she was Defensive Player of the Year last season, but it is not known whether she will be ready when the league opens Jan. 8. Meniscus repair recovery can take up to three months, according to Cleveland Clinic guidance.
