Marion County logs 29,100 early votes ahead of Nov. 3 election

Nearly 29,100 Marion County voters had cast in-person ballots by the afternoon of Oct. 26, outpacing the county’s reported early-vote totals at comparable points in 2022 and 2024. The figures cited for 2022 show an increase of about 79%—less than the more-than-doubling described by the county clerk.

Marion County logs 29,100 early votes ahead of Nov. 3 election

Marion County had recorded 29,100 in-person early votes by 3 p.m. Oct. 26, as voting continued ahead of Indiana’s Nov. 3 general election, according to the county election office.

The total rose from 23,545 by Oct. 25, based on county election data. Early in-person voting began Oct. 6 and is scheduled to end at noon Nov. 2.

Marion County Clerk Kate Sweeney Bell said turnout was running at more than twice the level at the same point in the 2022 midterm election and expected the trend to continue. She said voters were using their ballots to make their views heard.

The comparison figures cited by the election office show 16,259 in-person early votes in Marion County eight days before the 2022 election. The current total of 29,100 is about 79% higher than that figure, rather than more than double. The county recorded 18,181 in-person early votes at a comparable point in 2024.

Early voting is typically lower in non-presidential election years, but this year’s pace is elevated, the county clerk said. The rising participation comes as voters prepare to choose candidates in the midterm election, which is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
