Three people recovering after gunfire in west Indianapolis neighborhood

Three people were injured in a shooting around 2 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, in the 5200 block of Georgetown Road on Indianapolis’ west side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responding to a report of gunfire found two people wounded at the scene. A third person injured in the same incident later went to a nearby hospital. All three were reported to be in stable condition.

A man who said he was one of the injured told local reporters, through an interpreter, that he and two girls had been hurt and were recovering. He said the shooting happened in a backyard.

Jose Salvador, who lives across the street, said he and his wife had returned home after 1 a.m. and noticed several cars nearby. After going to bed, he heard what he estimated were about 60 gunshots.

Salvador described the neighborhood as quiet and said he had lived there for 20 years without hearing anything similar. He said he was relieved his neighbors were recovering and hoped those responsible would be caught.

Police had not announced whether they had identified a suspect or determined a motive. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-265-TIPS (8477).
