Deck failure near IU Bloomington sends several patients to area hospitals

Several people were injured when a deck collapsed Friday night at a home near Indiana University Bloomington, bringing firefighters, other emergency crews and IU Lifeline to the scene.

The Bloomington Fire Department said crews were called at 10:29 p.m. to the 100 block of North Bryan Avenue, just off campus. Responders found the deck collapsed and several people hurt.

IU Health said its Methodist and Bloomington hospitals were caring for “several patients” connected to the collapse. The health system did not release patient-specific information, and officials have not said how many people were taken to the hospital or described their injuries.

The circumstances leading to the collapse remain unclear. Social media posts suggested it happened during a party, but authorities had not confirmed that claim. Bloomington police said they would not release information until Monday; further details from IU Lifeline were also pending.
