Lutheran High faces one-year CHSAA probation after racism investigation

Lutheran High School in Parker has been placed on one-year probation by the Colorado High School Activities Association after an investigation into alleged racist incidents, the association announced Oct. 15, 2026.

The school must develop a detailed corrective-action plan covering game management, spectator behavior, staff training and school culture. Lutheran leaders are also required to present updates on the school’s progress to the CHSAA board. If the school does not meet the association’s requirements, CHSAA could suspend its membership, barring Lutheran from CHSAA-sponsored activities and potentially disrupting many of its athletic and after-school programs.

Executive Director Dan Gehrke told families in a letter that Lutheran condemns racism and will fulfill the requirements. He also said school leaders were disappointed that CHSAA reached its decision before Lutheran completed its own review and shared its findings. Gehrke said the school was preparing a fuller response and outlining next steps.

The consequences are already reaching beyond the school. Air Academy forfeited its homecoming football game against Lutheran, citing concerns about fan safety, while Coronado High School said its athletic events should uphold dignity and fair, equal play. Both schools are in Colorado Springs.

CHSAA said member schools are responsible for the conduct of coaches, players and spectators, and said racism and discrimination have no place at schools or sporting events. The association also cited its responsibility for sportsmanship, crowd control and the treatment of all participants.
