Nuggets revive Denver Rockets look for ABA merger anniversary season
The Denver Nuggets will bring back the look of their Denver Rockets years with orange throwback uniforms for the 2026-27 season, as the team and three other former American Basketball Association clubs mark the 50th anniversary of the ABA-NBA merger. Denver’s “ABA 50th Anniversary Classic Edition” uniform draws on the Rockets’ orange road jerseys from the 1970s. It features “DENVER” arched across the front, outlined in white, and the team’s original Rockets logo. The Nuggets plan to wear the uniforms in nine games this season, seven of them at home. Jerseys and other anniversary merchandise are scheduled to go on sale Oct. 19. The Indiana Pacers, the New York Nets — now the Brooklyn Nets — and the San Antonio Spurs will also wear ABA-inspired uniforms. Those four franchises are the ABA teams that joined the NBA when the leagues merged in 1976. Denver played as the Rockets until 1974, when the team changed its name to avoid confusion with the NBA’s Houston Rockets. The Denver franchise reached the ABA Finals in its final season in the league.
