Westminster AMC reopens after four-day shutdown over rodent findings

An AMC movie theater in Westminster has reopened after a four-day closure prompted by health inspectors who found dead mice and droppings in a kitchen area.

Jefferson County Public Health ordered the theater closed last week after an inspection on Thursday, citing immediate health concerns. The department cleared it to reopen Monday, after AMC said it had completed extensive cleaning and pest-control work with a professional vendor.

The closure followed customer concerns raised with the county in May, June and again last week. Some moviegoers had also described seeing mice inside the theater over several months.

Westminster resident Ed Rose, a regular customer, said he recorded a mouse during a movie this month after feeling it touch his leg. He said he had encountered mice at the theater before and felt customers’ earlier reports had not been addressed quickly enough.

AMC said it took the matter seriously and worked with a third-party pest-control company to address evidence of pest activity. The company said the theater reopened after the remediation and county clearance.

Some customers said they were willing to return after the cleanup, including one who said the Westminster location was the closest theater to home. The health department said the theater’s routine inspection is typically scheduled for December.
