A small plane that departed Longmont was reported missing Sunday night and found crashed Monday near Eldorado State Park. Search crews found two people dead at the site; investigators are examining the crash.
Two people were found dead Monday at the site of a small-plane crash in Boulder County, after the aircraft was reported missing the previous night, authorities said.
The single-engine plane had departed from Vance Brand Airport in Longmont and was last seen on radar near Eldorado Springs, according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. A report of a possible downed aircraft came in at about 9:42 p.m. Sunday. The plane had not been reported as having landed at a local airport.
Searchers located the wreckage north of Eldorado State Park and south of the Flatirons. Crews used drones and a helicopter equipped with night-vision technology overnight but did not find the aircraft. The search was suspended and resumed Monday morning. Responders reached the crash site around noon, where both occupants were pronounced dead.
The sheriff’s office and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will separately determine the cause and manner of death and release the victims’ identities.
