Smoke from Arapahoe County vehicle fire prompts shelter-in-place precautions
South Metro Fire Rescue urged people within a half-mile of a burning electric vehicle near Arapahoe Road and Waco Street to close windows and doors and shut off heating and cooling systems. Arapahoe Road was closed in both directions as crews responded Tuesday morning.
Firefighters responding to an electric vehicle fire near Arapahoe Road and Waco Street in Arapahoe County urged nearby residents to take precautions against smoke Tuesday morning.
South Metro Fire Rescue said people within a half-mile of the fire should close their windows and doors and turn off their heating and cooling systems while crews worked at the scene. The vehicle was producing thick, black smoke.
Investigators were alerted to the fire shortly after 7 a.m. Arapahoe Road was closed in both directions during the response. Officials had not provided an estimated reopening time.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured.
