Jefferson County measles case prompts exposure warning at DIA and Arvada clinic

A Jefferson County adult has tested positive for measles, prompting state health officials to warn of possible exposures at Denver International Airport and an Arvada urgent care in early October.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said the person likely contracted the virus while traveling outside Colorado. Investigators are still working to determine the infection’s source, and the person’s vaccination status is unknown.

People may have been exposed at these DIA locations and times:

- Saturday, Oct. 3, from 12:25 a.m. to 3 a.m.: Gate C50, the airport train to Concourse B, and an employee shuttle from Concourse B to the employee parking lot. - Sunday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: an employee shuttle bus and Gate B48. - Sunday, Oct. 4, to Monday, Oct. 5, from 11:25 p.m. to 2 a.m.: Gate A18, the airport train to Concourse B, and an employee shuttle bus.

The person also visited CareNow Urgent Care at 6413 Fig St. in Arvada on Oct. 7, between 11:35 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.

Anyone who was at those locations during the listed windows should monitor for symptoms for 21 days after their possible exposure. Measles symptoms can include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, followed by a rash. Anyone who develops symptoms should call a health care provider before going in person, officials advise, to reduce the risk of exposing others.

The case brings Colorado’s measles total to 26 so far in 2026. The state recorded 36 cases last year, its highest count in recent years. Earlier this year, a measles outbreak connected to Broomfield-area schools led to exposure warnings across the Denver metro area.
