Commerce City police say drone helped officers arrest teen in attempted car theft
A resident’s report of someone trying to break into cars at a Commerce City apartment complex led police to deploy a drone and arrest a 15-year-old. Police say the boy was already on probation for a prior motor vehicle theft charge.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested in Commerce City after a police drone tracked him at an apartment complex where a resident reported someone trying to break into cars, police said.
The Commerce City Police Department said its Real Time Crime Center drone responded to the report. Police allege the masked suspect was inside a red car and tampering with its steering column before leaving the vehicle and walking away.
When officers arrived, the boy began running, police said. He fell to the ground and was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle theft, according to the department.
Police said the teen was already on probation for a previous motor vehicle theft charge. The department did not provide further details about the earlier case or identify the apartment complex.
