Adams 14 School District has added 14 electric buses and says its entire school bus fleet is now electric, following a project supported by utility and federal funding.

Xcel Energy provided nearly $2.4 million through its Electric School Bus Program, and the district received a $2.86 million award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus Rebate Program. Veregy helped secure funding and designed and built the project’s infrastructure.

The district says the change is reducing fuel and maintenance costs by more than $77,000 annually. Federal tax credits and utility rebates could provide another $1 million, though that funding is not guaranteed.

Adams 14 Superintendent Dr. Karla Loría said the investment demonstrates the community’s value and commitment to its children.

The fleet transition comes as school districts face pressure from high diesel prices and seek alternatives that can reduce fuel expenses and emissions.
