Adams 12 schedules six school closures for 2027-28 school year
The Adams 12 Five Star Schools Board of Education approved a plan Wednesday, Oct. 7, to close six schools beginning in the 2027-28 school year, a change expected to affect about 1,600 students and more than 300 staff and faculty members. The schools slated to close are Centennial Elementary, Cherry Drive Elementary, North Mor Elementary, Rocky Mountain Elementary, Shadow Ridge Middle School and The Studio. District staff first presented the recommendation to the board on Sept. 3, citing declining student enrollment. The closures are part of a broader consolidation plan that will also expand and relocate Hulstrom K-8, a magnet school. The board approved establishing a new K-8 magnet school focused on the arts as well. The changes will reshape school assignments and workplaces across the district. The closures are not scheduled to take effect until the 2027-28 school year.
