Two Dak Prescott interceptions help Packers defeat Cowboys 23-13
Jordan Love threw a touchdown and ran for another as Green Bay beat Dallas at Lambeau Field, dropping the Cowboys to 2-4. Dallas’ defense showed signs of improvement, but the offense went scoreless in the first half and could not overcome two interceptions.
GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Dallas Cowboys lost 23-13 to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night at Lambeau Field, as two Dak Prescott interceptions helped derail scoring chances and Green Bay extended its lead to 17-0 by halftime.
Jordan Love completed 23 of 41 passes for 276 yards and threw a 9-yard touchdown to Matthew Golden on Green Bay’s opening drive. Love also scored on a 1-yard sneak just before halftime. The Packers improved to 4-2 with their third straight win; Dallas fell to 2-4.
Prescott finished 34 of 54 for 258 yards and threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Flournoy with 44 seconds remaining. Dallas failed to convert the ensuing two-point attempt when Prescott could not connect with CeeDee Lamb.
The Cowboys’ turnovers came in the red zone and near scoring range. After a hit from linebacker Zaire Franklin forced an incompletion on second down at the Green Bay 17, safety Evan Williams intercepted Prescott’s next pass, intended for Lamb. Later, a holding penalty pushed Dallas back, and rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse picked off another Prescott pass after Lamb fell on his route.
Green Bay turned the second interception into points, driving 77 yards for Love’s touchdown run. Dallas’ first-half shutout was its first since Nov. 7, 2021, when it trailed Denver 16-0 at halftime.
Javonte Williams scored on a 1-yard run early in the third quarter, but the Packers answered with two field goals by Trey Smack to maintain control. Golden caught six passes for 104 yards and the opening touchdown, despite dropping or missing chances on potential long scoring plays.
The game was marked by 22 penalties, 11 against each team. Dallas was penalized for 108 yards and Green Bay for 96.
Dallas did get an encouraging performance from a defense that had entered the game allowing a league-high 6.4 yards per play. Dee Winters made the Cowboys’ first interception of the season late in the first quarter and appeared to return it for a touchdown, but a replay review ruled that Golden had touched him while he was down.
The team had held a players-only meeting in the days before the game and added veteran defensive assistant Mike Pettine to help first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker. Winters later left with an ankle injury. Receiver KaVontae Turpin also exited in the first quarter with a rib injury. For Green Bay, Cisse left with a stinger in the second half.
Dallas visits Philadelphia on Oct. 26. Green Bay travels to Detroit next Sunday.
