Vance set for Oct. 29 campaign stop in Weatherford as Texas Senate contest tightens
Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to rally in Weatherford on Oct. 29, with doors opening at 10 a.m. and his remarks set for 1:50 p.m. The visit comes as polling shows the Texas Senate race between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico close.
Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to headline a Republican midterm rally in Weatherford on Thursday, Oct. 29, as the party campaigns ahead of a closely contested Texas Senate election.
The event will take place at JRJ Construction on Southwest Ric Williamson Memorial Highway, according to the Texas Republican Party. Doors are set to open at 10 a.m.; the rally is scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m., with Vance expected to speak at 1:50 p.m.
The visit comes amid a tight contest between Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico. A recent poll found the race essentially tied, with Paxton drawing strength from Texas’ Republican lean and Talarico benefiting from voters’ economic concerns and more favorable views of his character. The poll also found a larger share of Democrats saying they are certain to vote, while stronger Republican turnout could benefit Paxton.
Vance has made other Texas campaign appearances this fall, including rallies in Harlingen in September and Tyler on Oct. 13. At the Harlingen event, he acknowledged frustration with the pace of economic progress while blaming the previous administration for the conditions his administration inherited.
President Donald Trump is also scheduled to hold Texas rallies on Oct. 27 in Lubbock and Corpus Christi, two days before Vance’s Weatherford stop. Trump has made several other campaign appearances in the state this fall.
The Weatherford rally gives Republicans another opportunity to mobilize voters as the Senate race enters its final weeks. Voter concerns about the economy and turnout are among the factors shaping the contest, according to the polling analysis.
