Granada Theater sale will end Lower Greenville’s longtime music-and-dining pairing

Dallas’ Granada Theater and its neighboring Sundown at Granada restaurant have been sold to New York wellness company Bathhouse. The restaurant is set to close Nov. 1, while the theater will continue hosting concerts through April 17, 2027, before a planned reopening in 2028.

Granada Theater sale will end Lower Greenville’s longtime music-and-dining pairing

The Granada Theater and Sundown at Granada on Lower Greenville have been sold to Bathhouse, a New York-based social wellness company, the venue’s owners announced Friday. The sale will bring the restaurant’s run to a close Nov. 1, while concerts at the historic theater are scheduled through April 17, 2027.

Owners Mike Schoder and Julia Garton said rising costs, changing audience habits and corporate consolidation helped drive their decision. They said they had rejected several developers and looked for a way to keep music at the site before agreeing to sell.

The Granada opened in January 1946 with a screening of “Mildred Pierce.” Schoder and Garton bought the theater in 2004, and the restaurant opened in 2012. The owners said they had spent years building both businesses and described leaving as difficult.

Bathhouse was founded in New York in 2019 by Jason Goodman and Travis Talmadge. The company has plans to expand to Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Chicago. Talmadge has said the Granada’s exterior will remain unchanged when the space reopens in mid-2028. The future venue is expected to shift from live music and dining to wellness services, though further details were not included in the announcement.

The change marks another transition for Lower Greenville, where longtime businesses have faced departures in recent years. Blue Goose Cantina’s Greenville Avenue location, for example, closed in 2023. For the Granada, the final concert date means the neighborhood’s familiar music venue will remain open for several more months, but its next chapter will be shaped by a different kind of business.
