Downtown Dallas I-30 will close for bridge work from Saturday night to Monday morning
TxDOT plans to shut both directions of I-30 between I-35E and I-45/U.S. 75 for bridge demolition, from 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26. The closure is part of the $888 million Canyon Project and could also disrupt customers at nearby businesses.
Drivers traveling through downtown Dallas this weekend will need to avoid a stretch of Interstate 30 as crews demolish bridges for a long-running highway project.
Both directions of I-30 will be closed between the I-35E and I-45/U.S. 75 interchanges beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. The closure is scheduled to end at 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26. The Texas Department of Transportation recommends using Woodall Rodgers Freeway as the primary alternate route and advises motorists to follow detour signs and check navigation apps for changing traffic conditions.
TxDOT crews will demolish several bridges in the Canyon area as part of the agency’s $888 million Canyon Project. Work began in March, and the project is expected to continue through 2031.
The construction is also affecting people who live and work near the freeway. At The Vibes Barbershop on Akard Street near Griffin Street, owner Karon Glasper said a weekend closure could cut into business during a busy period. Earlier construction has already made it harder for some customers to reach the shop, he said.
TxDOT Northeast Texas section director Tony Hartzel said the agency is coordinating with Dallas and the surrounding community and said alternate routes remain available to get across downtown. Glasper urged drivers to be cautious and check their maps before leaving.
