MCARTHUR, Ohio — Two people connected to separate criminal cases involving members of the Siders family are scheduled to appear in Vinton County court Monday, as prosecutors continue pursuing charges stemming from a wide-ranging child-abuse investigation. Brandon Henderson, 40, the children’s uncle, is set for a pretrial hearing. He faces 21 charges, including gross sexual imposition, sexual battery and endangering children. Prosecutors say the alleged sexual-abuse victims in Henderson’s case are not among the 16 children removed from a Vinton County home on June 30. Henderson’s attorney, Dorian Baum, said his client is innocent and argued that the allegations against him involve a different household and separate conduct from the child-endangerment case involving the Siders family. Christina Siders, 78, is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. bond hearing. She faces 19 child-endangerment charges connected to the 16 children, who were placed in state custody after their rescue. The children are now in confidential foster placements, and Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer has said all 16 are safe. Siders is being held on a $300,000 bond. Her attorney, Kandra Roberts, is asking the court to allow her release with GPS monitoring and requirements that she attend future hearings. Roberts has argued that Siders has no criminal history, cooperated with investigators and has followed instructions not to contact the children or other defendants. Prosecutors oppose reducing Siders’ bond. Archer has described her as a potential flight risk and a possible danger to the alleged victims. The state also points to a pending competency evaluation. Siders was indicted Aug. 21 along with her husband, Gary Siders Sr., and the children’s parents, Elizabeth Siders and Gary Siders Jr., on child-endangerment charges. Elizabeth and Gary Siders Jr. also face child-sex-abuse charges in a separate case. Henderson and Joshua Saunders, identified as a cousin of the children, were indicted in a third case involving alleged child sexual abuse. The cases are among three described by investigators as tangentially related and involving six family members overall. Gary Siders Sr. previously received a modified bond after a severe medical condition required hospitalization. A judge ruled last week that he was incompetent to stand trial. Local children’s services agencies continue handling the 16 children’s cases, with their placements kept confidential to protect them.
