A Groveport Madison school bus carrying two students crashed into a utility pole Monday morning in the Blacklick Estates neighborhood southeast of Columbus, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened on Chatterton Road near Fleet Road after the driver lost control of the bus. The vehicle left the roadway, crossed into the backyard of a nearby home, ran over a fence and struck the pole, breaking it at its base, authorities said. The bus was transporting the students to Bryce Christian School, which is a few blocks east of the crash. The driver and both students escaped without injuries. A Groveport Madison district spokesperson said everyone aboard was safe despite the severity of the scene. The utility pole was left leaning against the right side of the bus. Chatterton Road was closed between Renfro Road and Fontaine Road as crews responded. The crash remained under investigation Monday.
