COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two Columbus men are facing felony charges after gunfire in the Milo-Grogan neighborhood wounded two women and led a Columbus police officer to return fire, authorities said. Dimir Thomas, 23, was arrested Aug. 24, while Daniel Wagner, 22, was arrested Sept. 18. Both men are accused in the Aug. 17 shooting near Gibbard and Washington avenues, north of Downtown. Police said officers were speaking with residents shortly after 10:30 p.m. while following up on an earlier reported incident when people fired an unknown number of shots in their direction. Two women were struck and taken to a hospital. Both survived. Sgt. James Fuqua said one officer fired a weapon during the encounter. No officers were injured. Thomas was indicted Sept. 2 on five counts of felonious assault, four counts of felonious assault on a police officer, discharging a firearm at or near a prohibited premises and having a weapon under disability. He was given a $200,000 bond and pleaded not guilty. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 1. Investigators used surveillance footage and cellphone data to identify Wagner as a second suspect, police said. He faces five counts of felonious assault and four counts of felonious assault on a police officer. His bond was set at $5 million, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 28. The charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
