New Indian Restaurant Opens on East Main Street in Downtown Columbus

Sitara Fine Indian Cuisine opened Oct. 2 at 427 E. Main St. in downtown Columbus, in the space previously occupied by Indian Oven.

The restaurant offers weekday lunch thalis—multi-course meals served on a platter—and weekend lunch buffets. Menu options include saag paneer, butter chicken and paneer tikka masala, priced at about $20, as well as samosas, pakora, chaat, rice kheer and gulab jamun.

Owner Mandeep Singh also operates Ammar India Restaurant in Zanesville, which he and his family opened in 2024. Sitara has indoor seating for 68 people and additional outdoor seating. The restaurant plans to renovate the patio next year, a staff member said.

Indian Oven closed its East Main Street location in September and said it planned to relocate to Delaware, though it has not announced an address. The restaurant began in Columbus’ Old North neighborhood in 1996 and moved to the downtown site in 2001. In a Sept. 1 social media post, Indian Oven thanked customers after what it described as 26 years at the location and said the closure was not the end of its business.

Sitara is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
