Lufthansa to launch three weekly Columbus–Frankfurt flights in May 2027
A new Lufthansa route will give central Ohio its first nonstop air connection to Europe, beginning May 5, 2027. The service will also connect Columbus travelers through Frankfurt to more than 300 destinations in the Lufthansa Group network.
Columbus will gain a nonstop flight to Germany next year, when Lufthansa begins three-times-weekly service between John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Frankfurt Airport on May 5, 2027.
The route, announced Oct. 19 by the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, will be the first nonstop connection between central Ohio and Europe, according to the airport and airline. Lufthansa said it will use a Boeing 787-9 with 287 seats in business, premium economy and economy cabins.
The inaugural flight, LH406, is scheduled to leave Frankfurt at 11:15 a.m. and arrive in Columbus at 2 p.m. The return flight, LH407, is set to depart Columbus at 4:20 p.m. and arrive in Frankfurt at 6:15 a.m. the next day.
Frankfurt is Lufthansa’s largest hub. From there, passengers can connect to more than 300 destinations served by Lufthansa Group airlines, including cities across Europe and elsewhere in the world.
Lufthansa Group Vice President of Passenger Sales for the Americas Dirk Janzen said the route is intended to serve both business and leisure travelers and deepen ties between Ohio and Europe. He described the service as part of the company’s continued expansion in the United States.
Daren Griffin, president and CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, called the route a milestone for the region. He said the nonstop connection could help area businesses reach international markets and make travel to Ohio easier for overseas visitors.
The aircraft will feature Lufthansa’s Allegris cabin, which the airline says includes updated seating and amenities across its travel classes. Business-class passengers will have several seating options, including a suite with added privacy; premium-economy seats will offer more space, and economy will have a redesigned seat, the airline said.
