Columbus man faces charges in March and June shootings; authorities also sought him in September case
Trey Morris, 21, was arrested Tuesday and faces felony charges tied to two Columbus shootings in 2025, including one that left a man paralyzed. Authorities have also said he was wanted in connection with a September shooting that seriously injured two people.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Trey Morris, 21, was arrested Tuesday and charged in connection with two Columbus shootings in 2025, including a March attack that left a man paralyzed from the waist down, according to a felony complaint.
Morris faces seven counts of felonious assault and three weapons charges stemming from the March 13 shooting near East Main Street and Allen Avenue in Olde Towne East. A man was found with a gunshot wound to his back and taken to a hospital in critical condition. He survived, but hospital staff later told him he was paralyzed, the complaint says. A woman was also slightly injured.
Police recovered 41 shell casings at the scene. Witnesses told investigators that Morris and others had argued with the victim over his relationship with a woman, according to the complaint. Security footage showed a white Chevrolet Cruze in the area before the shooting and, at about 3:33 a.m., a person in the back seat firing toward a home on East Main Street.
Investigators also cited Instagram posts they said contained information about the shooting and FaceTime calls connected to other suspects. The complaint says phones belonging to possible victims, including Morris, were turned off before the shooting and switched back on afterward.
Morris is also charged with two counts of felonious assault and three weapons charges related to a June 16, 2025, shooting near East 13th Avenue and North Pearl Street in the University District. No one was injured, but two men sitting outside a business were fired upon, police said. Security footage captured the incident, and police said they recognized Morris from earlier encounters.
Authorities had also sought Morris in connection with a September 2025 shooting on Blake Avenue in the Argyle Park area that seriously injured two people. The charges described in the complaint stem from the March and June incidents; the information provided does not specify a charge against Morris in the September case.
Morris was assigned a $5 million bond on the charges, according to the report. The allegations have not been proven in court.
