Columbus 6-year-old lands short-film role after neighbor shares doorbell videos
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A six-year-old’s regular visits to a neighbor’s front door have led to a role in a short film. For about two years, Nyla Hopkins stopped by local filmmaker Damon Mosley’s home to ask to play with his dog and sometimes show off her dance moves. Mosley recorded some of the encounters on his Ring doorbell camera and shared videos on social media, where they drew thousands of views. Impressed by Hopkins’ personality, Mosley decided to cast her in his upcoming short film. He said her visits lifted his spirits during difficult times. “When I was having tough times and she would come by, her big personality, I felt, deserved to be on a bigger screen than just a doorbell camera,” Mosley said. “I got to bring her on set.” The experience was new for Hopkins, who said she had never been on a film set or visited a studio. Her work included blowing bubbles for a scene, and she described the experience as a fun chance to meet new people. A teaser for the project featuring Hopkins was recently released. The film remains in production, and Mosley is crowdfunding to shoot the rest of it. The project’s title and a release date were not provided.
