USDA recall covers 946 pounds of Imperio jerky sold in Illinois and six other states

An Elgin-based company is recalling about 946 pounds of ready-to-eat beef jerky distributed in seven Midwestern states after the U.S. Department of Agriculture determined the products had not received federal inspection before sale.

The USDA said Imperio Distribution’s jerky also carried an unauthorized inspection mark belonging to another facility. The mark bears the number 1885.

The recall covers 2-ounce sealed bags of Imperio Fuego, Imperio Original and Imperio Limón Beef Jerky (Carne Seca). The products were packaged between January and October 2026 and distributed in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin.

Federal officials said they had received no confirmed reports of illness or injury connected to the jerky. Because products that bypass inspection may pose risks, including undeclared allergens or harmful bacteria, the USDA advises consumers not to eat the recalled products. They should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Anyone concerned about possible illness or injury should contact a health care provider.
