Oak Brook mall shooting left one dead; woman faces attempted-robbery charges
A 29-year-old Chicago woman was scheduled to make her first court appearance Oct. 13 in connection with the Sept. 30 shooting at Oakbrook Center that killed a Dolton man and wounded a woman. Investigators have said five people were involved, but the circumstances and the woman’s alleged role remain unclear.
A 29-year-old Chicago woman was scheduled to appear in DuPage County court Tuesday in connection with a shooting at Oakbrook Center that killed one person and wounded another.
Chance Jamerson faces three felony counts of attempted armed robbery, according to the charges reported by investigators. Police have not publicly detailed her alleged role in the shooting, which involved five people, or explained why she faces robbery charges rather than a homicide charge. The investigation was expected to be discussed after her court appearance in Wheaton.
The shooting happened Sept. 30 in the parking lot outside the L.L. Bean store at the Oak Brook mall. Police said five people had met in two vehicles when a dispute broke out and shots were fired. Shoppers were briefly placed under lockdown as emergency crews responded.
Justin Hill, 28, of Dolton, was killed. A woman was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds; it has not been established publicly whether that woman was Jamerson.
Investigators said one vehicle left the scene and was later located using license-plate reader technology. Police initially detained two men and a woman, but released all three without charges. Jamerson is the only person charged in the case so far, according to the reported investigation.
