Body found east of Naperville station prompts BNSF service disruptions
Metra BNSF service was disrupted during the Tuesday morning commute after a man’s body was found about a mile east of the Naperville station, prompting a death investigation and a halt to trains in the area. The body was discovered around 4 a.m., Metra spokesperson Martha Hill said. She said the cause of the man’s death was unclear and that Metra had no trains operating in the area at the time. Some inbound and outbound train movement had resumed by 6:45 a.m., but Metra warned that extensive delays would continue. Nearly a dozen trains traveling to and from Chicago Union Station were affected, with some cancellations and others operating out of sequence or skipping stops. The disruption affected tracks used by both commuter and freight trains. For riders seeking alternatives, the Union Pacific West line serves Ogilvie Transportation Center, while the Rock Island line runs to LaSalle Street Station. Those routes do not serve Union Station, so commuters may need to account for a different downtown destination.
