Lowell woman accused of using forged court records to deceive law firm clients
Heather Ann Textor faces 42 felony counts and three misdemeanors after a three-year Indiana State Police investigation into alleged fraud involving clients of a Merrillville law firm. Police say some clients were jailed after being misled about expungements or restored driving privileges.
A 41-year-old Lowell woman faces 42 felony charges and three misdemeanors in an alleged fraud scheme involving clients of a Merrillville law firm, Indiana State Police said Oct. 16.
Investigators identified Heather Ann Textor as the defendant in a probe that began after suspicious documents were submitted to the state police Expungement Unit. Police said the three-year investigation uncovered allegedly forged criminal-record expungement orders and judicial signatures, falsified specialized driving privilege documents, misuse of client funds and electronic payments diverted to personal accounts.
Authorities allege Textor misrepresented her role at the law firm and generated false court documents that led clients to believe legal work had been completed. Some of those documents were allegedly used in attempts to obtain government licenses or benefits. Police said some clients were arrested or jailed after they were led to believe their records had been expunged or their driving privileges restored.
The charges include five counts of fraud against a financial institution; 13 counts of forgery; two counts of counterfeiting; and 22 additional felony counts involving fraud and theft. The allegations have not been proven in court.
State police said investigators believe there may be additional victims. Anyone who believes they were affected is asked to contact Sgt. Joe White at 219-696-6242.
