Loop train service to be disrupted as CTA continues Lake Street Bridge repairs

CTA will suspend Brown, Green, Pink and Orange Line service on parts of the Loop from early Saturday until Monday morning. Shuttle buses and street closures will complicate travel during a weekend of downtown events, including the Arts in the Dark parade and the ALS Walk For Life.

Loop train service to be disrupted as CTA continues Lake Street Bridge repairs

Chicago Transit Authority riders heading to the Loop this weekend should expect detours and extra travel time as elevated tracks close for work on the Lake Street Bridge.

The closure begins at 4 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, and is scheduled to end at 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26. It affects the Brown, Green, Pink and Orange lines. The bridge repair project began in October 2025.

Several downtown events are also expected to draw crowds. The Arts in the Dark Halloween parade is scheduled for Saturday evening, with Columbus Drive closed between Balbo and Monroe streets along the parade route. The ALS Walk For Life begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with an opening ceremony at Soldier Field. The roughly two-mile route follows the lakefront and Museum Campus before ending at Soldier Field.

The CTA’s service plan splits the affected lines into segments and uses shuttle buses where trains will not run:

- Green Line trains will operate between Harlem/Lake and Clinton, and separately between Roosevelt and South Side terminals. Shuttle buses will run between Clinton and Roosevelt. Riders coming from the South Side can connect to the Red Line at Roosevelt. - Brown Line trains will run between Kimball and Merchandise Mart. Shuttle buses will replace service between Merchandise Mart and Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren. Riders can connect to the Red Line at Belmont or Fullerton. - Orange Line trains will run between Midway and Roosevelt, with shuttle buses between Roosevelt and Clinton. - Pink Line trains will run between 54th/Cermak and the Racine Blue Line station, but will not travel through the Loop. Riders can transfer to the Blue Line at Racine.

The underground Red and Blue lines are not affected by the track closure. The CTA advises riders to allow additional time and check their routes before traveling. With both train service and some streets disrupted, eventgoers may need to adjust how they reach downtown destinations.
