Lakeview Catcade resumes business after neighbors help secure cats during break-in

The Catcade Cat Café and Rescue in Lakeview is set to reopen Saturday after someone smashed a front window at the business earlier in the week, prompting a quick response from nearby residents and staff to protect the cats inside.

The owner said in a social media post that he hurried to the café at 624 W. Belmont Ave. after receiving an alert about the damage on Wednesday. A group of people was already there, keeping the cats away from the broken window and clearing glass from the floor to prevent injuries. They stayed until staff had boarded up the opening.

No property was reported stolen. The owner said no cats were injured or went missing, though some were moved to emergency foster homes.

The café planned to reopen Saturday. No arrests had been made as of that day.
