Five adults found dead after Mundelein welfare check; police classify case as murder-suicide
Police say five adults found dead in a Mundelein home late Sunday died in a murder-suicide. Investigators said the victims were connected through family or domestic relationships and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Five adults were found dead inside a home in Mundelein late Sunday, and authorities have classified the deaths as a murder-suicide.
Mundelein police were called to the home in the 200 block of Wellington Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. Oct. 18 for a welfare check after a relative could not reach one of the people there. Officers entering the house found three men and two women, police said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office said the deaths appeared to be caused by gunshot wounds. Police said all five were believed to have been shot at close range with a handgun; two handguns were recovered at the scene.
Four of the people who died were family members, according to police. The fifth was believed to have been in a domestic relationship with the suspected assailant. Two of the five lived at the address. Authorities had not publicly identified the people as of Monday afternoon, while the coroner’s office was conducting autopsies and working to confirm their identities.
Police said the incident appeared to be isolated and there was no threat to the public. Mundelein police, the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and the coroner’s office are investigating.
