Brighton Park shooting leaves mother of five in medically induced coma
Rosa Hernandez Rivera, 32, was shot in the head while riding in a car on West 47th Street. Her family says she remains in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital; police have made no arrests.
A 32-year-old mother of five is in a medically induced coma after being shot in the head in a suspected road-rage incident in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood last Thursday morning.
Rosa Hernandez Rivera was a passenger in a car in the 2400 block of West 47th Street when a gray sedan pulled alongside and someone inside opened fire, according to police. The shooter drove south on Western Avenue, police said.
Hernandez Rivera was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. Her sister, Sofia Hernandez, said her condition had not changed as of Monday, Oct. 26, and that she had spent much of the time at her side.
“She’s a lovely girl. She likes to help whoever she can,” Hernandez said. “She also is a strong woman. Tries to do the best, not ask for help, but at this time, I guess she needs our help.”
The family is hoping for her recovery, Hernandez said. No one has been arrested, and Chicago police are investigating.
