Witnesses describe gunfire after crash draws deputies to Clover road
Neighbors said they heard at least 10 shots after a car crashed on Lloyd White Road in Clover on Wednesday. Authorities had not confirmed what happened, whether anyone was injured or what led to the gunfire.
A car crash on Lloyd White Road in Clover brought multiple deputies to the scene Wednesday afternoon, where nearby residents said they heard gunfire and later saw ambulances leave the area.
Neighbors said the crash happened around noon. One resident, who asked not to be identified, said he saw deputies approach the vehicle with their weapons drawn and call for the person inside to get out. He said shots followed and estimated he heard at least 10.
The resident said he took cover behind his vehicle because he could not tell where the shots were going or whether the person in the car had a gun. He described seeing what appeared to be a Corvette crashed on the road; neighbors said they had heard a car speeding before the crash.
The road was closed as a large law-enforcement presence gathered in the area. Neighbors reported seeing several ambulances leave, but it was not clear whether anyone was hurt or where the ambulances went.
Authorities had not confirmed the circumstances surrounding the crash or gunfire, including who fired the shots. The person in the car’s condition was also unknown.
